Great horned owl

Our Great horned owl patient was feeling well enough to stand up and voice her haughty opinion regarding her medical treatment. Great horned owls mate from January to March. These owls have been documented brooding eggs in -32 degree temperatures. The females remove feathers from their abdomen forming a brood patch which covers the eggs. The patch keeps the temperature and humidity high, allowing the eggs to hatch.
