Juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron
State endangered Juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron. Chicks eat half their weight in food each day as they grow. Night herons eat in the evening and rest during the day. They leave the nest at one month even though they cannot fly until they are six weeks old. These herons will nest alone or in a group in a sanctuary tree. Does anyone know of any active nest in Roanoke? The chick will be accepted if we can find a nest with chicks the same age. Call us at 798-9836.
