Fawn

A face to die for? Yes, I am an adorable animal. You might find me laying down or romping alone in a field. I might decide to lay in your yard under a bush or in your flower bed. I am fine, please leave me alone. I am young and inexperienced and I do not know that humans might pick me up while my mother is off eating and watching from the edge of the woods. When I am under 2 weeks of age I cannot keep up with my mother’s fast gallop. Mom beds me down to rest until she returns at dusk to feed me. As I get older and stronger I become inquisitive and wander around, sometimes I lay down in areas that are visible to humans and they kidnap me. I want all fawns to be with their mothers. Please, leave me alone and if I am in a dangerous area, move me quietly and quickly to a nearby area so my mom can locate me. So, if you find me or another fawn, and aren’t sure what to do, call Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center at 540-798-9836. Kidnaping me is killing me, since you lower my chance of survival to 30%.
