Released Tri-colored bat
Released Tri-colored bat, formerly known as “pips” or pipistrelle.
They hunt at the edge of forests and near or over water for insects. When capturing prey they increase their body mass by 25 percent in 30 minutes. These bats use their membranes(tail and wing) to restrain their prey.
This patient was offered a smorgasbord of insects and would not eat. Concerned, about his weight loss we offered him a lid of baby meat and his appetite quickly came back. Thanks to Dr. Kelli for the identification.
