Yes, the bird is an American Bittern. He was unable to lift after a severe storm came through Ellett Valley and reportedly ” fell out of the sky”. No injuries were noted on the exam. The Bittern could only lift 4 feet before landing. I felt our 25 foot aviary was not long enough to test fly him when recovered. So, I transferred him to the Wildlife Center of Virginia.The patient is in great hands. Thanks to Kim and Don for capturing him and Ellen for driving him to Waynesboro.

The Bittern was released on October 19th 2014!
